A Follow Up On Obama's Brother-In-Law - Chicago Tribune

Chicago Tribune,

'Michelle Obama's brother writes memoir: Book, to be published on April 20, is mostly about basketball,' by Katherine Skiba, Tribune reporter: '[Y]ou won't find dirty laundry - or even much dish - in a soon-to-be-released memoir from Michelle Obama's brother, Oregon State basketball coach Craig Robinson. The book, which has a foreword from first grandmother Marian Robinson, is about developing character. 'A Game of Character: A Family Journey from Chicago's Southside to the Ivy League and Beyond,' is due out by Gotham Books on April 20. Craig Robinson writes that he and his parents didn't think Barack Obama stood much of a chance with his sister when they met him early in their courtship. He and his parents were out on their porch on a hot summer night when the couple stopped by to say hello on their way to a movie. 'Well, he's tall,' Marian Robinson said while Barack was out of earshot. 'Not a bad-looking guy either,' Michelle's father, Fraser Robinson, judged. But even though the suitor struck the Robinsons as a self-possessed man with a nice smile and firm handshake, they figured he wasn't a keeper. 'Too bad,' Marian said. 'Yep,' Fraser answered. 'She'll eat him alive.'

Interesting Census Info - NYTimes

THE BOX THE PRESIDENT CHECKED FOR 'RACE' ON HIS CENSUS FORM: 'Black, African Am., or Negro.' NYT's Sam Roberts: '(The anachronistic 'Negro' was retained on the 2010 form because the Census Bureau believes that some older blacks still refer to themselves that way.) Mr. Obama could have checked white, checked both black and white, or checked the last category on the form, 'some other race,' which he would then have been asked to identify in writing. There is no category specifically for mixed race or biracial.')

We wonder why the Times cares about this. Just interesting info?

Stimulus Does Work

THE STIMULUS AT WORK

Some have said that the stimulus hasn't saved any jobs, but here is a case where at least one job was saved. Oregon State University Athletic Director Bob DeCarolis was considering firing their basketball coach, Craig Robinson, after an 8-11 start (2-5 in the Pac 10 conference). When word of this reached Washington, Undersecretary of Education Martha Kanter was dispatched to Corvallis with $17 million in stimulus money for the university. Craig Robinson's job is safe for this year. For those of you unfamiliar with Coach Robinson, he just so happens to be Michelle Obama's brother. Just a coincidence I'm sure!
